Is it true that manufactuers put things in consumables to make you need more of their product?

E.g. when drinking a product, it makes you thirsty soon so you have to buy more, or skin clensers that make you need to keep using them because of something in itIs it true that manufactuers put things in consumables to make you need more of their product?
This is an all time debate-able question in my culinary classes,(in fact I am making them do a project on it right now) some companies, moreover, snack companies will do this to try to get you to buy more of their product. Although you won't find this problem much if you shop around the exterior of the store, buying only produce, flour, vegetables, fruits, cheeses, milks, meats, and bakery items. You could get all the essential needs from these areas alone, without having to spend a fortune on junk foods like pringles or Sugary Colas. Is it true that manufactuers put things in consumables to make you need more of their product?
The sacrin (fake sugar) in diet soft drinks only make you hungry. People who are on diets to lose weight and drink diet soft drinks or cordials, only feel hungrier after drinking and makes them want to eat more. Really think about it dieters out there.

The chemicals that they put into the butts in tailor made cigarettes make you more addicted to smoking than the actual addiction to nicotine. Roll your owns are safer.
well why do you think they serve salty nuts at bars, it makes you want to drink more. I don't think that there are special chemicals put into food to make you want to use a product more.
Not sure about that - but I have heard that bodies take longer to decompose due to all the preservatives that are in food today.
Well, it's not as simple of a question as it seems.

In its most basic form, ';addictive'; simply means that extended use of something causes dependency or habit. You've3 probably heard people say that video games are addictive... certainly it's not because the video game injects some drug into you. It's because the video game makes the user happy, and it's the endorphins associated with happiness that people become addicted to. It's the whole ';you can't eat just one'; deal. Food companies do intensive research into making foods that people will crave, but it's just the yummy factor and not some weird subverted chemical thingy.

As for drinks making you more thirsty, I think that's a property of carbonated drinks, which aren't exactly as thirst-quenching as what your body really needs, which is straight water.

But do foods contain chemically addictive substances? Not since Coke took the coke out of Coke. :)
They used to but in most countries the law has tackled this by banning and monitering, but if the product needs it for a true reason then there has to be warnings for the cosumers.
No.
consumables yes skin products no. Mcdonalds is actually addictive a peice of evidence is Super Size Me. A man goes on a all mcdonalds diet. when he is goping off the diet he actually gets depressed without it. plus caffine is natually addictive just like nicotine. so preservitives (that is what makes food stay good longer is also semi addictive. If you fear that you are addicted to a product try the organic version of that product to see if it actually is having an impact. Another movie that explains the bodies chemistry is What the Bleep do We Know?
i once heard that pringles contain a sea weed extract that makes you crave once you have started
